This is a 3/4" Dowel Cap with a 1/4" hole drilled partially through the ball. They are sometimes called a doll head bead. They are also perfect as legs on stools or drawer pulls. Sold in packages of 10.

Besides using these pieces to cap off the end of a dowel, you can also use them for supporting your project above the table while you paint or add a finish coat to your project, protecting the bottom from sticking to the table.
We also use these as legs on some of our projects. Use them to make a box stand up and be different from anything that you have seen. They can also be used under lamp bases to add visual impact. Try painting them in opposing colors to make a splash of color.
